Static Shock and Trampolines

If you have ever used a trampoline for a long period of time, you have probably also experienced the static shock that can come along with bouncing. Static shock occurs after an electrical charge is built up in the jumper, rendering him or her either negatively or positively charged.  Once the jumper get off of the trampoline and touches something (or someone!) that can conduct electricity, a static shock can occur.

Nylon trampoline jumping mats are frequently responsible for creating an electric shock.  The constant friction of the bare feet against the nylon jumping mat can occasionally create an unpleasant, albeit harmless, static shock.  Although jumping on the trampoline in bare feet will reduce the risk of static shock, it won’t eliminate the risk entirely.

Basic Trampoline Exercises

Hello everyone,

Spring is right around the corner, and you need to look your best at the beach.  Have you ever considered incorporating a trampoline workout to aid in your exercise program?  Here are some basic moves that will get you moving and feeling fit!

  1. Basic Bounce– just bouncing on the trampoline will help you burn calories and lose weight.  Some individuals prefer to count bouncing repetitions, while others set a time limit.  Figure out a plan that works well for you.  It’s your trampoline weight loss program—individualise it!
  2. Bounce and Kick– after you are comfortable with the motion of the trampoline, try kicking to up the calorie burn.  When you are in the air, extend one leg into a kick before switching legs.  Feel the burn!
  3. Touch Your Toes– for the flexible bouncers, try touching your toes while you’re in the air.  Expert tip–stretch before attempting this feat!!
  4. Arm Circles– why should your legs have all the fun?  Get your arms into the action by doing arm circles of varying widths while bouncing.  You can circle your arms in front of you, to the side, one at a time, etc.
  5. Knee touches– this is one of my favorite moves!  For a simple knee touch, allow your hands to touch your knees in midair.  To really tone your core, bring your elbows to your knees and squeeze your abs and perform a standing crunch.

Happy trampoline toning, everyone!

Trampolines and Arthritis

Did you know that trampoline exercise is a very popular way to treat arthritis?

It is true!  Trampolines are an excellent fitness tool for those suffering from arthritis of varying severity.  In fact, experts are finding that trampoline workouts are one of the most effective methods of coping with the disease at home.

Trampolines provide a very low-impact form of exercise that is kind on painful joints.  Regular training and exercise increases flexibiilty and reduces the stiffness in joints.  They are very reliable, no-fuss devices and are quite safe for users of all ages.

Mini-trampolines are especially helpful for arthritis sufferers because they can be fitted with a bar or a strap to increase user stability.  The rebounder bars are especially recommended for those who have problems with balance during exercise.  Mini-trampolines recreate low-impact versions of doctor-recommended physical activity, including walking, gentle jogging, stretching, dancing, and coordination excercises.

Additionally, trampolines are especially useful because they tone muscles and provide a cardiovascular workout.  Strengthened, limber muslces are less likely to feel stressed or stiff and are much more effective in supporting and protecting joints that are affected by arthritis.

Trampoline and education

Did you know that trampoline training is often used in school systems to aid special education recipients?

It’s true!  Child experts are finding that the use of trampoline training can be a very effective tool for teaching autistic, learning disordered, and other special education recipients the benefits of exercise and wellness.  Many special education children have difficulty staying in his or her seat during lesson time and are consumed by an urge to move. By using a trampoline as a training tool, special education children can learn counting, music and rhythm, physical education, coordination, flexibility, and impulse control.  As an added bonus, the use of a trampoline in the classroom can be used as a reward for good behavior.  Studies are also showing that trampoline exercise plans are very effective for burning off energy and regaining focus–crucial areas of focus in special education and individualised education plans.

Trampoline -trained children are heavily supervised and enjoy the benefits of safety nets, so the risk of fall-related injuries is all but eliminated.

Have you ever heard of programs like this?  Do you think they are effective?  If you are a parent or teacher of a special needs individual, do you think this is an effective educational method?

Trampolines on TV!

So, confession time.  In addition to being a trampoline fanatic, I’m also a bit of a reality TV junkie (hey, don’t judge!). I have to tell you - Trampolines have been surging in popularity on TV lately, especially on reality TV shows.

The Biggest Loser is one of the most popular shows on television, and for good reason–the inspiration that these brave men and women provide for nations all over the world is truly touching!  Recently, The Biggest Loser contestants implemented a trampoline workout routine to increase their weight loss.  The contestants’ Trampoline workouts are fantastic exercise tools because they tone your body while improving your cardiovascular fitness. Even though I have my favorite contestants, I have to cheer on the whole group of them because they make me want to take on the world!

Has anyone seen the trampolines on America’s Next Top Model recently?  The judges – and I think this is genius – are teaching the girls how to do unusual posing and have been using trampoline training to do it.  What better, more unusual way to take some of these lanky, uncoordinated girls into famous models!  (PS how about Miss J’s hair lately?!)

Any thoughts, readers?

Trampoline Owners’ Mistakes

Jumping on a trampoline is a fantastic to involve the whole family in a fun wellness routine, but many times trampoline owners unintentionally put themselves and other jumpers at risk. Most trampoline accidents are very preventable with just a few safety considerations.

First, never jump on a trampoline when the jumping mat is wet.  Jumping mats can be slick when they are wet, and the unstable surface on which the jumper is landing may lead to falls or injuries.  Never allow children to throw water balloons or buckets of water on the jumping mat.

Secondly, if you haven’t purchased a trampoline safety net, you may want to consider buying one to increase the safety of your trampoline.  Safety nets are crucial safety components and prevent the vast majority of would-be injuries.  Safety nets act as arms to keep the jumpers safely in the middle of the trampoline.

Next, carefully clear all debris from the jumping mat before allowing users to access the trampoline. Injuries may occur if the jumper lands on rubbish that has been left on the jumping mat.  By clearing the debris away, you give jumpers a fun, smooth, steady surface on which to land.

What are your favorite trampoline safety tips?  Are there any trampoline safety tips that you would recommend for families with children?

Trampoline Fitness Classes

Trampolines are used for a wide variety of functions, but did you know that many gyms are now implementing these incredible devices in their group classes?

It’s true!  Mini trampolines (also known as rebounders) are surging in popularity as gyms all across the world are creating trampoline fitness classes.  Trampolines are a fantastic way to lose weight in a fun, low impact way.

Trampolines give many of the same toning and cardio effects of medicine balls or treadmills, but without the jarring impact on the joints.  People who want to simultaneously lose weight and tone their muslces needn’t look any further–a mini trampoline is like a weight machine and a cardio machine combined into one device!

Trampoline fitness classes can also offer some added benefits that other devices simply cannot claim.  Jumping on a trampoline increases flexibility, improves balance, fine-tunes coordination, and greatly improves the body’s ability to coordinate two sides of the body.  The unstable rebounding motion of these devices forces the body to become more aware of its surroundings and greatly improves motor skills and kinesthetic awareness.

Furthermore, jumping on a trampoline is just as fun as you remember.  Statistics show that people who enjoy their exercise programs are much more likely to continue their routine and therefore maintain their weight loss.

Trampoline Fitness

Fitness has a huge part to play in today’s modern society.  From the obvious health advantages, children and adults of all ages will benefit from the active and enthusiastic involvement of fitness activities.   Recent research has concluded that the lack of fitness in a majority of societies today revolves around the simple decision of what activity to undertake.  From studies that Vuly Trampolines have conducted, many people are now turning to the use of a trampoline for their families overall workout regime.

Comparisons have been made between the pros and cons of other exercises, like running, to the use of a trampoline and the differences are, in fact, quite vast.   Whilst running is an excellent exercise for those who have the physical capabilites to endure hours of jolting on our knee, ankle and hip joints, most people would much prefer to avoid this.  Trampolines offer the effective alternative.

Bouncing allows for an injury free option to raise our heart rate to the level required to gradually increase our fitness levels.  With minimal stress on our joints we can now enjoy an active lifestyle with our children for years to come.
